Extraordinary Women Blog #11 – What to Wear in Paris the End of Summer!!
It’s time I head back to my Paris apartment. I’m going earlier than usual because I’m joining my college good friend and her husband on a Rhine River cruise. Life is good! There is even a scheduled 1920’s dinner party! Photos will be taken for sure.
But, what to pack for the end of summer in Paris?
Dress cool but begin the transition to fall
Dresses are much more common in Paris than most cities in the USA. I’ve learned to love dresses because they are so much cooler than shorts or skirts. (I’m smiling because you’d never find this gal in a pair of shorts!)
Kaftans are fabulous. Long-sleeve kaftans are super flexible with a pair of tennis shoes and a shawl. Suddenly kaftans can be an easy transition from a café lunch in the hot Paris sun or with a shawl if you’re enjoying your aperitif outside.
One of my favorite online sources for dresses is Tuckernuck.com. They carry an assortment of brands, sizes, and prices.

Another great dress source is Bodenusa.com They are a UK company that ships to the USA but for those of you who live in Europe, shipping is usually free.

Boden also makes beautiful blouses in all sizes and great prices.

This is one of my favorites for the transition season. Linen but in a fall color.
This white blouse is also very pretty!

Worn with a skirt, and yes, Eileen Fisher finally brought back her straight skirts. Only two colors so far but I’m feeling hopeful.

You may love more ruffles and layers. Even when I was young and thin, I preferred straight, clean lines in my clothes and not a lot of busy prints. But if you love prints and ruffles, both Tuckernuck and Boden have loads of options.
Purses are our next seasonal transition challenge. When do we lose the straw? I feel it’s getting close. A straw bag screams summer, and therefore harder to transition.
Yet, if you’re like me, you’re just not ready for suede in early September.
Remember that purses are something that you can use year after year, so purchase quality. It makes a huge difference. Think navy, green, mustard or even red! All can transition from summer to fall.
Ines de la Fressage has one of my favorites. I have this one in navy. The photos don’t show it, but it can also be worn as a cross-body, which is much preferred if you live in a city.

This is another that I’m going to check out when I get to Paris. Victoria from In the Frow shared this handbag on her vlog and I fell in love with the versatility of the bag handle/strap which can be converted into three different lengths – elbow, shoulder, or cross-body.
It’s expensive but cleverly varied!

Next is shoes –
As you know I love tennis shoes. After years of heels, ballet flats, and competitive tennis, my feet have paid the price.
Can you transition to fall with tennis shoes? Yes! Then, as it gets a little cooler, think of ankle boots.
A year ago, I fell in love with Tory Burch’s Howell sneakers. Thank heavens I purchased several in many colors and designs. I have the suede shoes in multiple colors, white leather and even animal prints. When they went on sale, I’d purchase a pair or two. Now they are discontinued! Oh, Tory … please make them again!!
So I don’t have a specific brand to recommend but think about embracing tennis shoes.
Afraid you won’t look stylish in tennis shoes? Check out these elegantly put together women.

Last think about adding a bright scarf. I love my Hermes scarves. In the evenings, bring along a cashmere shawl and you are ready for that summer to fall transition!!
Enjoy!!
