Hi Ladies!
Welcome to the Real You Women Podcast. This week we’re going to talk about embracing what you have inside you already that will help you to find clarity in your Dreams and make them happen.
I’ve arrived in Paris. I’ve shown my covid vaccine card, had my nose swabbed for the test, and masked up for the seven-hour flight.
But now I’m in Paris and all is good in my world again.
My little Paris apartment is lovely. Amanda Godfrey, who I highlighted in the very first issue of my Be the Real You Magazine, orchestrated all the decorating while I was unable to return to Paris. Amanda is amazing. She’s a Brit who has lived in France for over a decade and speaks French like a French person. That’s super important when you are renovating anywhere in the world!
If you want to read more about Amanda’s career path while raising kids and moving around Europe, go to the first issue of the magazine HERE.
Ladies, I’m happy. My Nespresso machine is operating, my bed is comfy, the weather in cool in Paris and I’m loving my drapes. It doesn’t take much to make me happy.
But mostly, as I’ve said before, I love the woman I am when I’m in Paris. She got a little quiet during covid in Minneapolis, but she’s back and I’m happy she is.
Who is that woman?
She’s happy, she’s curious, she feels feminine and she’s constantly creating and re-creating herself …. and I don’t mean in just a business way, but she is deciding all the time what she wants in her life.
What is so weird, is that in Paris, I’m not afraid of failure. I’m not afraid of being odd. Maybe it’s because most people I pass will never ever see me again and have no idea who I am …. what’s that phrase “You find yourself when you go somewhere where no one knows you!”
Now not everyone loves Paris or can go to Paris. So, let’s talk about that. Not to get too Carl Jungian but this woman I love when I’m in Paris is just an aspect of myself – obviously she’s always with me. Therefore, I can call on her anytime to speak up.
We have many selves inside us. A few of mine are the warrior when I feel strong and want to defend someone or something. The wise sage when I relax into my wisdom and rise above any craziness.
So, you too have your version of the Parisian woman inside you.
She is curious, a little self-contained because she knows what she wants in her life and is comfortable getting rid of what she doesn’t. This is a woman who has BIG dreams.
Even though, we each have versions of this woman inside of us, we have to work on connecting with her, we have to work to make sure she isn’t quiet.
Call it mindset if you want, but I believe it’s more about being present to that part of you.
She’s always there, you just have to invite her to your table of consciousness every single day.
How to do that is the question right? How can you connect with the part of yourself that is happy, curious, loving, and self-confident? The woman with big dreams?
Close your eyes and ask her to come forward.
Remember when Nike’s slogan was Fake It Until You Make It? Well, if your confident self is so shy that she won’t step forward, pretend my dear ladies. Pretend.
Now you might be thinking, What is Sharri talking about? Isn’t this the Real You Woman Podcast?
Yes, it is. The difference between pretending and not being your real self might seem a little fuzzy, but it actually isn’t.
You’re pretending to have courage. You’re pretending that you are super comfortable with the confident, curious, comfortable woman that already is inside you. Actually, if you dig deep, you’re actually not pretending …. she’s there, you just haven’t talked to her lately! That my dear ladies IS the real you.
Now if you’re still struggling, think of a woman that you admire.
I admire J.K. Rowling. This is a woman who had an idea for a book in her head, and even though she was a single mother, with limited resources, she went from café to café and wrote the book while her daughter was in a stroller next to her. Then when the book was finished, 12 – yes you heard that correctly, 12 publishing houses turned down the book before Bloomsbury accepted it.
J.K. believed in her gifts, her story and she was tenacious enough to keep pushing until she got a publisher on board. We all know what happened after we met Harry Potter, and I’m sure there were many times J.K. wanted to shelve that manuscript but she didn’t. She kept on and I believe there were days when she had to fake her self- confidence and convince the part of herself that wanted to quit and try just one more publisher.
I bring up this exercise because most often the people we admire, usually have qualities or characteristics that we ourselves have inside us, but we’re not ready to believe it.
So, who do you admire? Get to the one or two people you truly admire and write down why. What is it about them that you admire?
Then, ask yourself – what would you do differently if you believed you had those exact, same qualities? Would you show up in the world differently? How does your dream look if you accepted that you have all these same qualities as the person you admire?
So, if I embrace that I have the same qualities I so admire in J.K. Rowling, I’ll walk down the streets in Paris with confidence, excited that my biggest accomplishment is yet to happen, that I WILL touch the lives of thousands of women to be their real and true selves.
In the second issue of Be the Real You Magazine, I made the suggestion that you read The President’s Hat by Antoine Laurain.
Each person in the book discovered when they wore the President’s Hat, they embrace the qualities that they admire in the president and their lives changed as a result.
So, close your eyes and think of the qualities of someone you really admire. List them out if you want. Next, walk around an entire day believing, convincing and even pretending you have those same qualities.
Notice what is different. Are your thoughts different? Are you responding to others differently? What you’ll notice is that your dream becomes clearer, and you’ll be more confident that whatever your dream is suddenly feels possible and even probable.
Outro…
I hope you enjoyed this episode and you’ve connected with the qualities of a person you truly admire- and more important- embrace that YOU have those same qualities!
